Building Business One Stitch at a Time

Sherri Stratton had worked in the retail sewing industry for 13 years and was about to graduate from Cañada College’s Fashion Design program, when she decided it was time to fulfill her longtime dream of running her own retail sewing business.

From the very first step, Sherri’s family—her husband and two daughters—were at her side. Sherri’s husband offered to help out by providing his services as a sewing machine repairman. Her two daughters, pledged to work in the shop several days a week and do all the social media marketing for the business on Facebook and Twitter. They even worked together on the business’s name; Her two daughters suggested the nickname they had given the family’s basement, which was filled with sewing machines, fabric, notions, and had a medieval feel to it. Thus “Sergealot” was born.

Currently, Sergealot is one of only two sellers of the top notch Baby Lock brand sewing machines, and they also offer custom embroidery services, sewing lessons (private and group), and sewing machine repair. It is a true “family-owned” business, from start to finish.
